Breaking in a Legend glove

Breaking in a Legend glove—whether it’s one of your Rare Calf Edition gloves with cow fur leather or a synthetic/pro-grade leather model—requires care to preserve the materials and maximize performance. Here’s a tailored guide just for Legend gloves:

How to Break in a Legend Glove (Properly)
What You’ll Need:
Glove conditioner (ideally leather-safe, non-petroleum-based)

A baseball or softball

Glove mallet (optional but helpful)

Rubber bands or a glove wrap

Time and catch sessions

Step-by-Step Break-In Process

  1. Apply Light Conditioner
Use a dime-sized amount of glove conditioner designed for high-quality or fur-backed leather (for Rare Calf Editions).

Rub into the pocket, palm, and webbing using a soft cloth or your fingers.

Avoid getting conditioner on the fur section—keep it to the leather areas only.

Let it sit for several hours to soak in.

  1. Form the Pocket
Place a ball in the glove’s pocket (where you want it to naturally close).

Wrap the glove tightly with rubber bands or a glove wrap.

Let it sit overnight or longer—this helps create a natural, game-ready shape.

  1. Pound the Glove
Use a glove mallet or a baseball to pound the pocket, hinges (where the glove folds), and webbing.

Do this for 10–15 minutes per session. It softens the leather without damaging the integrity of the glove.

  1. Play Catch
This is the most important step. Play catch every day if possible.

Focus on catching balls in the pocket to help shape the glove to your hand and playstyle.

  1. Repeat As Needed
Continue playing catch, wrapping the glove, and conditioning every 1–2 weeks as needed.

The glove will gradually mold to your hand and become more responsive.

Legend Glove Tips

For standard pro-leather gloves: You can be a bit more aggressive with conditioning and pounding, but still avoid overdoing it.

What to Avoid
Never bake, microwave, or soak your glove.

Don’t over-oil—it makes the glove heavy and ruins the leather.

Don’t use Vaseline or household oils—they can break down the leather.

Break-In Timeline
Catch-ready: ~1–2 weeks with regular use

Game-ready: 3–4 weeks

Fully molded: 1+ month
